Making OWL & PENGUIN (for adults)

May 11, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT

The event has passed, but can be viewed here:

Join us for a deep-dive session on OWL & PENGUIN, the early reader that has been selected as a Geisel honoree.  Author-illustrator, Vikram Madan, will talk with his editor, Sally Morgridge, about the non-obvious origin story behind the series and the considerations that go into writing for emerging readers.

Are you interested in early readers because you work with kids? Don’t miss this great activity kit!

Seattle-based author-artist Vikram Madan grew up in India where he really wanted to be a cartoonist but ended up an engineer. Many, many years later, he finally came to his senses and followed his heart back into humor and whimsy. When not making paintings, Vikram writes and illustrates fun books for kids, including the Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor book OWL & PENGUIN, the award-winning poetry collections A HATFUL OF DRAGONS, THE BUBBLE COLLECTOR, and LORD OF THE BUBBLES, the early reader series BOBO & PUP-PUP, and the upcoming graphic-novel-in-rhyme series ZOONI TALES.

Sally Morgridge (she/her) is a senior editor at Holiday House Publishing, where she works on books for children of all ages. Recent highlights include Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor book Owl and Penguin by Vikram Madan; middle grade magical family saga The Carrefour Curse by Dianne Salerni, which received three starred reviews; and YA noir-romance Murder for the Modern Girl by Kendall Kulper, which received two starred reviews and was named to the Rise: A Feminist Book Project list. Sally lives in New York City with her husband and two rambunctious children, where she loves cooking, exploring city parks, and watching too much TV.

OWL & PENGUIN can be purchased at xxx.  Support local bookstores!
